Episode 2: The Empire Struzan Disney

Yesterday was the big news day, when it was announced that J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars Episode VII. Now the fans and bloggers and everyone in between is picking this news apart, trying to figure out how Abrams style will look in a galaxy far, far away. Except for more lights blinding the audience in each shot, and some shaky camera work, no one will come close to guessing anything, and it will be two to five years before the wait is over, and we find out if the episode x11 is a confusing plot on an island, or just a mighty train wreck with aliens.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, some shocking news has emerged. Drew Struzan, the artist responsible for the one sheets (cinema posters) for the first six episodes, will not be involved.

Rumors were circulating that the 65 year old Struzan, who is better-than-well-known for his poster art on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back To the Future and Rambo, might be coming out of his retirement (thanks to digital art, no doubt) to paint a world for episode x11. Alas, the truth is easier to guess than the next movie’s plot.

Struzan posted on his Facebook page that he has not been approached by Disney. They most likely will not ask him, as they already have artists there who need some painting money.
